TILS “Innovative Product Award” Allows Potential to be Realized
One maker wins for its lightest-ever LED streetlight
2013/05/29 | By Michelle HsuThe Innovative Product Award this year at the 2013 Taiwan International Lighting Technology Show (TILS) entered its 4th year.
If the Taiwan lighting industry aims for sustainable development, it has to come up with practical, innovative designs, says the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), organizer of the show and competition, which believes that competition fires up creativity among designers to allow potential to be realized.
Displaying the winning products in the “Innovation Award Pavilion,” the organizer noted that all the winners and finalists show qualities of innovation, marketability, safety, energy-efficiency, and eco-friendliness. Plus they have to be designed to appeal to consumers in aesthetics, ease of use, also retail at highly competitive price.
Super-slim 6” LED Recessed Light—Epoch Chemtronics Corp.
Launched by Epoch Chemtronics Corp., this light features side-entry light technology which not only emits even light, but also reduce weight and volume of a fixture to thickness of less than 2 cm., with such compactness enabling versatile mounting to offer added flexibility in interior design.
Liu Gu-huan, vice president of the company, said that the narrow-frame design enables cylindrical lamps to maximize light-projection coverage with minimal fixture volume and weight, hence achieving lightness, slimness and aesthetics in this series of recessed lighting to provide versatile installation in interior decoration. Plus its special energy-efficient cooling design is also patented.
In recent years and with emerging LED lighting, Epoch has tapped its backlight technological know-how to develop starting in 2009 LED lighting, backed by integrated research, production and sales to offer tech-and-aesthetic light sources. The maker offers a wide range of lighting products that are certified to CS, CE, CNS and other international safety standards.
With TESS as own brand, Top Energy Saving System Corp. took this year's Innovative Product Award for its recyclable disposable LED bulb.
The company said that the most significant feature of this product is its integrated technology, combining optical, mechanical, electrical and thermal technologies into one modular concept.
Breaking the LED bulb into two main parts, an “LED light module” and an “LED power module,” the company then proceeded to develop a detachable design, which enables replacing either the 'LED light module' or 'LED power module' if necessary without replacing the whole unit. Such design enables consumers to save money and minimize waste output. In addition, the company stressed the bulb's versatile light source – pan light, spot light, white light and yellow light—hence achieving variable mood, functional lighting.
Top Energy says that light and heat are interdependent. High temperature produced by light emission is the most pressing problem facing LED lighting. While most LED makers stumble on dealing with heat conduction and dispersion, Top Energy has leapfrogged traditional thinking to offer the latest technological solution.
The iDimmer digital light modulator designed with Anteya's patented technology enables adjusting light color and brightness, also featuring the twin advantages of simple wiring and easy maintenance.
Company president Caleb Wu says that the most significant feature of the iDimmer light modulator is it improves the complex wiring interface shortcomings of traditional light modulators. The user needs to only install a power line to achieve reduced wiring and also avoid faulty wiring. In addition, the iDimmer uses the company's proprietary iPLC technology that miniaturizes circuitry, achieving integration without needing external driver. Such design avoids complex configuration settings for wireless transmitter and thereby achieves genuine wireless-ness (apart from the power line), without RF interference.
Wu noted that when brightness and power efficiency of LED lighting products reach a certain level, the next focus should be to enhance lighting atmosphere. Anteya's iDimmer adjusts brightness and light color to create moods, doing so with eco-friendliness to minimize carbon emissions.
Building the LED lighting market, Everlight Electronics Corp. founded Everlight Solid State Lighting Corp. last year, and this year wins the Innovative Product Award for its SL-Victory streetlight, supposedly the lightest LED streetlight ever launched by the company. The heat dissipation system and exterior design are both inspired by concepts in sports cars. The open design of the lamp cover allows easy replacement of the built-in power supply to provide both security and convenience.
In addition, SL-Victory can be used in a variety of wireless smart lighting control systems to achieve overall power saving. Everlight claims that SL-Victory is the most efficient LED street lighting system available in Taiwan. Its modular and integrated design works well with Everlight's proprietary optical, electro-mechanical designs, which dramatically lengthens product life when combined with its heat dissipation system.
The SL-Victory Street Series has excellent heat management to enhance power efficiency, reduce luminous pollution and glare to minimize visual fatigue, hence being ideal for expressways, rural roads, industrial zones etc.
